If he would have his way, Simon Camacho would like to get a chance at defending UP star Juan Gomez de Liano.
A believer of the Fighting Maroons’ spitfire guard, Camacho, who has been Adamson’s best individual defender this season, hopes to contribute to trying to stop the UP playmaker.
Gomez de Liano has been phenomenal in his second UAAP campaign, averaging 16.2 points, 6.6 rebounds and 5.5 assists en route to joining Falcon Jerrick Ahanmisi in the Mythical Team.
Camacho relishes the opportunity to guard him.
“Siguro mas gusto kong bantayan si Juan Gomez de Liano,” he told Akari Sports. “Siya yung parang main source ng points sa kanila. Challenge na bantayan siya.”
True enough, while MVP Bright Akhuetie is the Maroons’ top scorer, it has been Gomez de Liano who has initiated UP’s offense in his 32.3 minutes on the floor every night.
But will Camacho ask coach Franz Pumaren to task him with taking on Gomez de Liano?
“Hindi naman,” he said with a chuckle. “Game plan naman ni coach. Kung sa akin, gusto ko siyang bantayan. Talagang ma-chachallenge din ako.”
