Falcons lock down on defense to end skid against Archers

It took a record-setting first quarter to get the job done.

Adamson held La Salle to a UAAP record-low two points in the first quarter before holding fort late to score a 57-50 victory in the UAAP Season 81 men’s basketball tournament Saturday at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.

Raring to get back at the Green Archers, the Soaring Falcons forced their foes to miss their first 20 shots en route to their seventh win in nine outings.

Sean Manganti torched the Taft squad with 19 points, 12 rebounds, four assists, two steals and a blocked shot while Papi Sarr lorded over the shaded lane with 12 markers and 15 boards.

After a 79-78 loss to La Salle in the first round, Adamson had a week to prepare for their bounce-back effort.

And when the game began, the Falcons looked like hounds smelling blood.

Adamson’s stingy defense held the Archers to 18 of 69 shooting from the field, including just two of 16 from three-point range.

Jerrick Ahanmisi had three triples for nine points while Jerie Pingoy added six points, five rebounds and five dimes.

Aljun Melecio missed 15 of his 23 attempts but still led La Salle with 18 markers and eight rebounds.
