Falcons claw Bulldogs to take share of top spot

A very strong start. A shaky finish.

Adamson used a big first quarter run to establish a cushion strong enough to withstand NU, 69-58, in the UAAP Season 81 men’s basketball tournament Wednesday at the Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City.

Jerrick Ahanmisi outscored the Bulldogs by himself in the first period, 12-11, while Papi Sarr added 11 markers himself as the Soaring Falcons built a 27-11 lead after 10 minutes.

The San Marcelino squad then poured it on in the second period, making almost 58% of their shots to bring a 42-23 advantage to halftime.

But NU clawed back in the third to cut it to single digits, 54-45, entering the final canto, where Adamson did just enough to preserve the win.

The victory pushed the Falcons to a tie for first with Ateneo with a 6-2 record.

Ahanmisi top scored for Adamson with 21 points spiked with three triples even as Sarr broke out for 16 points, 11 boards and two steals.

Dave Ildefonso posted 21 markers for the Bulldogs.
