Misfiring Baby Falcons turn back erratic FEU in girls volley debut

It wasn’t a particularly enthralling performance, but a win is still a win.

Adamson held fort in the end game to turn back FEU Diliman, 25-16, 23-25, 22-25, 25-19, 15-9, to open their UAAP Season 81 girls volleyball tournament campaign Saturday afternoon at the Blue Eagle Gym in Quezon City.

Unable to pierce through the Baby Tamaraws’ defense throughout the game, the Baby Falcons leaned on their service and their opponents’ ton of errors to pull off the hard-earned win.

Rookie Mayang Nuique was a revelation for Adamson, leading with 15 points off seven of the team’s 14 aces, four blocks and four hits.

Skipper Ishie Lalongisip, Kate Santiago and Ayesha Juegos combined for 24 points as the Baby Falcons took advantage of FEU Diliman’s 59 unforced errors.

The San Marcelino spikers connected on just 28 of their 150 spike attempts — a paltry 18.67% — while their foes made 49 of 171 (28.65%).

Lyann de Guzman led four Baby Tamaraws in double figures with 20 points off 12 kills, five aces and three blocks while Zey Pacia and Alexis Miner added 11 each.

Up next for Adamson is a date with UE today at 4:30pm in the same venue.
