When Adamson found NU a nut too tough to crack, they needed a hero.
Simon Camacho was just happy to answer the call.
The lanky forward scored all eight of his points in a fiery fourth quarter outburst, helping the Soaring Falcons overcome gritty NU, 63-58, in the UAAP Season 81 men’s basketball tournament Saturday at the FilOil Flying V Centre in San Juan.
Camacho’s heroics almost proved to be in vain as the Bulldogs cut the lead to three at 58-55 off a basket by Dave Ildefonso with over a minute left.
But Papi Sarr muscled his way for two points and Sean Manganti iced the match from the free-throw line as Adamson improved to a league-leading 5-0 record.
Manganti led the Falcons with 14 points, playing through an injury he suffered in the third period and adding four assists and two steals.
Sarr chipped in with 11 points and 11 rebounds while Jerrick Ahanmisi struggled but still posted 11 markers.
Camacho, ever the spark plug, delivered eight points, five rebounds and three blocks.
On the other hand, Ildefonso top scored for NU with 14.
