Sean Manganti drains game-winner as Adamson escapes UP

Sean Manganti scored off a wild heave with 0.7 seconds left to power Adamson to a scintillating 69-68 win over UP in the UAAP Season 81 men’s basketball tournament Wednesday at the FilOil Flying V Centre in San Juan.

With the Soaring Falcons down one, Manganti drove to the basket, tried to dish to Papi Sarr but got his pass deflected by Bright Akhuetie.

But the wiry swingman recovered and threw the ball, finding the bottom of the net as the San Marcelino squad took the lead for just the third time in the second half.

Jerrick Ahanmisi then stole the inbound pass as time expired.

Manganti bounced back from a scoreless outing against UST by leading Adamson with 18 points while Ahanmisi had 15.

Papi Sarr added 11 points and 11 rebounds even as Jun Espeleta chipped in 10, including a triple that pushed them ahead, 68-67, with over a minute left.

The Falcons overcame a monster effort from Akhuetie, who had 20 points and 20 rebounds, and Juan Gomez de Liano (21 points, eight rebounds).
