Rail-thin and relatively short at around 5-foot-5, Bern Flora doesn’t fit your modern UAAP wing spiker.
But with the way she contributed for Adamson in the UAAP Season 80 women’s volleyball tournament, expect Flora to shine even further next year.
The Pasay native was one of the Lady Falcons’ most reliable reserves this season, overcoming a health scare just before the tournament to earn coach Air Padda’s trust in crucial situations.
She even started as Adamson’s second outside hitter in the season finale, providing stellar floor defense and solid offense as the San Marcelino belles crushed UST in straight sets.
With a full year ahead of her, Flora vows to fill her frame and work double-time on her blocking.
“Magsisipag ako mag-weights tapos kumain para magka-laman laman ko para tumibay yung blockings,” she said. “Yun nalang naman siguro kulang sa akin kaya di ako napasok dun sa ibang games.”
Padda has regularly offered nice words for Flora, who has vastly improved under her watch. And the incoming senior is using those positive reinforcements to fuel her drive to be better.
“Gustong-gusto ko lalo maglaro,” she said. “Parang gusto ko mapatunayan kay coach na kaya ko.”
