She might have not seen a lot of playing time this season and actually looked like deer in the headlights when she did, but Mhay Roque is bound to get a bigger role with Adamson next year.
Roque, however, brushes that thought off and said that she needs to continue working on her game to earn her coaches’ trust.
“Syempre sobrang excited, pero kailangan kong paghirapan at pag-trabahuan kung paano ibibigay sa akin nila coach yung spot,” said the Bataan native as the Lady Falcons’ UAAP Season 80 women’s volleyball campaign drew to a close.
Once one of Adamson’s rising stars before suffering a knee injury, the Bataan native has since seen her stock fall, playing in just a few games throughout the tournament.
But with spikers Jema Galanza and Mylene Paat graduating, Roque will get a huge chance to earn some minutes and play a major role as the Lady Falcons rebuild in Season 81.
“Kailangan ako mag-step up kasi ako na yung naiwan na pinaka-senior,” she said. “Feeling ko kailangan ko akuin na senior na talaga ako. Wala na yung mga ate.”
Roque will use the team’s two-week break to ponder on her future and motivate herself to take her game to the next level.
And when training resumes next month, expect her to use the failures of this season to be a better player.
“Pagbalik ako na talaga yung mapupukpok,” she said. “Next season, mas ibibigay ko lahat. Parang di ko rin ginusto yung outcome ngayon. May mga regrets. Kailangan kong bumawi.”
