HFA, AUF renew rivalry in Akari Central Luzon semifinals

ANGELES CITY — Holy Family Academy and Angeles University Foundation renew their age-old rivalry when they lock horns in the semifinals of the 2018 Akari National High School Volleyball Championships Sunday here.

The top seeds from Groups A and B, respectively, encountered rough sailing, but eventually emerged against fellow heralded foes in the quarterfinals.

HFA fended off a tough challenge by Republic Central Colleges, 30-27, while AUF came back from a five-point deficit early in the match to subdue Holy Angel University, 30-25.

Meanwhile, Juan R. Liwag Memorial National HS quickly disposed of off-form Marian College, 30-15, to set up a Final Four clash with Jose Rizal Institute, which overcame a slow start to defeat Tarlac National HS, 30-25.

JRLMNHS and JRI figured in an intense battle in the group stage, with the Orani, Bataan representatives getting the upper hand late.
