Top Mindanao teams square off in first Akari Nationals leg


Forty teams from all over Mindanao battle for supremacy in the first regional finals of the 2018 Akari National High School Volleyball Championships this weekend in Cagayan de Oro City.

Powerhouse teams Iligan City National High School, Angelicum Learning Center and Saint Michael’s College of Caraga lead the eight-group field vying to be the first-ever Mindanao champions of the Akari Nationals.

Hostilities start on Friday, January 12 in the opening ceremonies to be held at the Corpus Christi Gym at 6:00pm.

Current Adamson Lady Falcon Chrislyn Uy hails from Group B top seed Libertad National High School in Misamis Oriental.

Elimination-round matches, meanwhile, will be held in four different venues throughout Saturday, with the top teams from each group advancing to the knockout rounds on Sunday.

Admission is free to the group stage matches at the Nazareth Gym (Group A-B), Lapasan Covered Court (Group C-D), Lourdes College HS Gym (Group E-F), and Corpus Christi Gym (Group G-H).

The Mindanao champions will win Php 10, 000.00 in cash while also getting the chance to represent the region in the National Finals to be conducted on March 17-18 at the Adamson University Gym in Manila.
