Once one of the UAAP’s most reliable stars in her prime, Judy Caballejo watched helplessly as Air Force crashed in a tight battle with Adamson last Sunday in the Akari Cup championship.
Sidelined by an ankle sprain she suffered in the semifinals just a few hours before the Last Dance, Cabalejo saw virtually no action as she walked with a limp.
And despite seeing the Lady Jet Spikers battle the Lady Falcons to the limit, the former UST star was visibly disappointed.
“Di pa rin ako masaya kasi di namin nakuha yung championship,” she said as she held back tears. “Yun yung promise namin sa group commander namin, di namin nakuha. Sayang. Parang palagi na lang next year, palagi na lang next time.”
Nonetheless, the veteran spiker only had positive words for their conquerors.
“Malakas, malakas yung team ng Adamson ngayon,” she shared. “Siguro ready na sila for the UAAP.”
Seeing several spikers like Eli Soyud, Joy Dacoron, Bern Flora and Chiara Permentilla put a dent on Air Force’s defense, Caballejo said this edition of the Falcons is different from Adamson teams she used to battle before.
“Dati yung Adamson parang may top player lang, pero yung team na to solid talaga sila. Halos lahat pumapatay na. Unlike dati na Pau Soriano lang, Pau Soriano.”
