Cherry Macatangay gets perfect birthday gift with Akari Cup crown

Adamson legend and assistant coach Cherry Rose Macatangay received a pleasant birthday gift after the Lady Falcons edged Air Force for the first-ever Akari Cup championship.

Playing in the finals a day before her birthday, Macatangay was ecstatic as her wards fended off a gritty challenge by the more experienced Jet Spikers for the team’s first title under the new era of Adamson sports.

“Syempre sobrang happy,” shared the amiable mentor. “Pinaka-aasam namin itong panalo para naman maganda yung feeling bago mag-UAAP. Nag-champion sila so yung morale mataas.”

Tournament MVP Fhen Emnas masterfully directed the Lady Falcons’ attack while Eli Soyud, Joy Dacoron, Bern Flora and Chiara Permentilla took turns in devastating the Air Force’s tenacious defense, as Adamson swept a team that used to regularly whip them before.

This welcome change wasn’t lost on Macatangay.

“Malaki na in-improve nila. As in sobrang laki ng in-improve ng team,” she said. “Talagang naglalaro sila as a team. Nag-tutulong-tulong talaga sila.”
