Steady Ahanmisi helps preserve close Adamson win over UST

With a lead too close for comfort, Adamson leaned on a steady hand to preserve a not-so-pretty, but very important victory.

Jerrick Ahanmisi scored 11 of the Soaring Falcons’ last 13 points in a hard-earned 75-70 win over also-ran UST in the UAAP Season 80 men’s basketball tournament Wednesday at the Mall of Asia Arena.

Unable to make their shots consistently and turning it over seven times in the third quarter, the San Marcelino side allowed the Growling Tigers to keep in step all throughout the game.

Fortunately for coach Franz Pumaren, Ahanmisi displayed ice in his veins to fend off the gritty Espana dribblers for their seventh win in 11 outings.

Ahanmisi led all scorers with 21 points, making three triples and six of his seven free-throw attempts.

Papi Sarr battled foul trouble in all four quarters, but still managed to put up a double-double of 12 points and 14 rebounds.

Adamson’s usually stout defense allowed the Tigers, who remain the only winless team in the UAAP with 11 losses, to make almost 43% of their shots while connecting on just 37% of their attempts.

Regie Basibas, Jeepy Faundo and Steve Akomo all finished in double figures for UST.
