Adamson coach Air Padda was barely able to contain her emotions after seeing Lady Falcons’ leader Jema Galanza fall to a scary ankle injury Monday at the FilOil Flying V Centre in San Juan.
Padda and her crew prevailed over CSB, 25-19, 25-20, 25-17, for their fourth straight win, formalizing their entry into the PVL Collegiate Conference Final Four.
But the victory was dampened by the injury to Galanza, who rolled her ankle after stepping on Felicia Cui, who entered her landing spot after a spike attempt.
In a TV interview post-game, Padda held back tears.
“Jema, she gave so much,” she opened. “She’s the heart and soul, not just of this team, but of the program the past few years. She’s been everything.”
“I don’t really know what’s gonna happen, but everyone saw her injury and she didn’t look in the best shape,” she added. “With all the pain she is experiencing right now, I know she’d be proud with how the team finished the game.”
Galanza winced in pain for minutes on the court before being rushed to Cardinal Santos Medical Center, where she is set to undergo several tests.
