Ateneo tests Adamson in ‘aerial battle’ to begin Season 80

Tipped as one of this season’s contenders, Adamson gets an early litmus test when the Soaring Falcons collide with last year’s finalist, Ateneo, to begin UAAP Season 80 at the Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City.

The San Marcelino cagers are coming off a fourth-place finish in 2016, but expectations are higher for Franz Pumaren’s crew as he brings back his core while strengthening it with the addition of gunner Koko Pingoy and swingman Tyrus Hill.

Their chemistry — and mental toughness — will definitely be put to the test against the Blue Eagles, who themselves, are parading an intact core backstopped by the arrival of blue-chippers Tyler Tio and Troy Mallillin, who was last year’s NCAA juniors MVP.

Game time is set at 4:00pm and the winner gets an all-important edge in a tournament expected to be the tightest in recent years.

MVP contender Papi Sarr will be Adamson’s fortress down low while Rob Manalang and Jerrick Ahanmisi are looked to as leaders for the Falcons.
