UST coach on subpar Lady Falcons: Ganun din naman kami dati

UST manhandled Adamson, 25-13, 25-12, 25-9, in the UAAP Season 79 women’s volleyball tournament Saturday at the FilOil Flying V Centre.

Like tigers snacking on their prey, the Espana spikers overwhelmed the hapless Lady Falcons with 31 hits, seven blocks and 14 service aces in a match that lasted less than 75 minutes.

The Golden Tigresses were so dominant that coach Kung Fu Reyes inserted his reserves in the third set and UST still crushed the San Marcel
ino crew with ease.

And while he authored the Tigresses’ demolition of Adamson, Reyes says he’s been in the same situation before.

“Although si Adamson, considering na wala pang panalo, yung spirit nila, yung willingness to win, medyo kulang lang,” he said. “Before, naramdaman din namin yan.”

Reyes also lauded coach Air Padda, who relentlessly tried to egg on her wards as they wilted under the pressure of UST’s loaded serves.

“She’s trying talaga na ilabas. Talagang kulang lang,” he stressed. “Ganun din naman kami dati.”

The Tigresses haven’t made it to the Final Four in five years, but this iteration is among those tipped to be in the thick of the race to the semifinals.

Sisi Rondina had a game-high 15 points — most of which she scored in a searing first-set performance — while Alina Bicar, who only played in the third set, and EJ Laure added six markers apiece.

“Magandang panalo ito para sa amin,” shared Reyes. “Building (ng) confidence yung ginagawa namin. Talaga tinyaga namin.”
