Smelling blood from the get-go, UST started strong and finished stronger.
Cherry Rondina had a bombastic first set, setting the tone for the Golden Tigresses’ 25-13, 25-12, 25-9 rout of Adamson in the UAAP Season 79 women’s volleyball tournament Saturday at the FilOil Flying V Centre.
Rondina exploded in the opening set, scoring off bullet-like spikes and aces before finishing with a game-high 15 points and four excellent receptions.
She got able support from her Espana teammates, with EJ Laure and Alina Bicar adding six points apiece. All offensive players fielded by coach Kung Fu Reyes scored except for Dimdim Pacres.
UST was scorching at the net and connected on 34.8% of their spike attempts while peppering the Lady Falcons with 14 aces.
Adamson was anemic in its attack and just had 16 spike conversions, with primary hitters Jema Galanza and Bernadette Flora combining to make just 10 of 57 attempts — a measly 17.5%.
Galanza top scored for the Lady Falcons with seven points, seven digs and nine excellent receptions while Flora added five.
The rest of coach Air Padda’s starters — Ronjean Momo, Awit Joaquin and Chumcee Caole — combined for three.
